It’s the conclusion of a special two-part episode of POST APOCALYPSE dedicated to the end of Rue Morgue Radio.

On this installment, Last Chance Lance and I read some of the listener’s favourite Caustic Critics moments over the show’s seven year history.

The idea was to go out with an insanely entertaining, epic extravaganza that would prove to be a fitting finale for the Caustic Critics’ long and dubious history. But then Lance kicked off with his impressions again….

I just finished listening and though I recall Lance asking if I could acquire a roo skull for him no promises were made on my behalf. However I did look into it and sadly they are rather hard to come by. Roo hunters are apparently only paid for clean head shots which destroys the skulls entirely, so I’ve been on the lookout for some roadkill. I’m unsure how Australia Post will react when I try and send a reeking, blood soaked package labelled head enclosed…again

I can probably get a kangaroo scrotum purse/pouch instead. Just don’t tell him what it’s made from.

Bah, except for the well-deserved inclusion of Mike Felsher's segment (the end is still hilarious), it was all about Lance! Everyone knows the best-ever Caustic Critics episode was the review of Rob Zombie's Halloween that Chris tried to fake his way through which of course you destroyed him for.

Thanks for the shout-out in the previous episode! I had lots of fun doing it and. along with doing telephone interviews, it bolstered my confidence to do panels.

I was quite relieved no-one picked the Alexander segment. While it perhaps endures as the most infamous moment on the Caustic Critics, it's been played to death.

And it's a shame no-one picked a Gore-Met segment! We had some good duels on there. It would've been fun to dig one of them up.

But I think it's about time we had a visit from the Gore-Met on the podcast. We can talk about all sorts of things i.e. what got you on the path to horror, how your column started, where you plan to take it in the 21st Century, the future of the Gore-Met in general and maybe we can just shoot the breeze with some relaxed, easy going banter on a variety of non-controversial topics such as...oh, I dunno.....your thoughts on WOMEN IN HORROR month for example?

But I appreciate your thoughts on radio building confidence...etc. I think generally it does. I saw this a lot at CKLN where certain hosts would give up airtime to young people. And because it's such a nerve wracking thing to do (for a lot of people) confronting the intimidation of it can give one a bit more self belief.

Of course, personally, I find it infinitely easier to sit behind a mic than up on a stage conducting a panel or something. That level of anxiety is the sort of horror that lingers and when I know I have to do one, it hangs over my head like a date with doom. That's why I'll only ever do one if the person I'm interviewing means a lot to me.

Generally speaking, once I get up there, I'm alright and sometimes it can be great fun and very rewarding but it's the agonising weeks long build up I can do without.

It may only be a technical award, but without the music and clips mixed in, hearing Lance and Feedback just talk would be like watching softcore pornography. Utterly pointless.

Agreed, but it was still awesome due to Chris' audacity, which I respect for the balls that went into trying to pull it off.

Ha! I picked a random episode out of the ones we did to listen to while I typed that post, and it was the Jack Brooks episode and it was good. Reminded me that I need to re-edit and post the full footage from the screening.

For me, it was getting used to the sound of my own voice in playback and maintaining the rhythm required for something like this.

Of course, personally, I find it infinitely easier to sit behind a mic than up on a stage conducting a panel or something.

I've had the opposite experience. I worked in a Beer Store for 8 years, and that was untold hours spent in front of a mike calling out orders and keeping a line-up moving and entertained by cracking jokes and shit. I was comfortable doing that in front of an audience. All I really needed to do was take that experience and combine it with the skill of keeping a conversation interesting. I don't know how you do interviews, but mine are mostly scripted. I come up with a set of questions that move through the story I want to write, but of course I have to be able to react to tangents to get what I want for the resulting piece and not get flustered. The first panel I did was the Underground Auteurs panel, and since I knew each of the participants personally, I found it easy to keep things moving along without any preparation. I did preparation for the panel I did with Jason Eisner, if you watch the video I linked to you'll see me occasionally play with my notes, but I definitely was not reading off a page, I was going with the flow, which I learned from doing the Caustic Critic segments.

Also, I promise to post a review of whatever shitty DVDs you send me. I think everyone that entered should do the same. No more of this "haven't had time to watch it" crap. You're shipping this stuff across the globe. It's the least we can do.
