On holiday with my brood on the Gold Coast, Australia I took my 8 year old daughter to The Wax Museum.
It boasts an impressive collection of figures depicting a variety of the usual luminaries but the real highlight is The Chamber Of Horrors. For that part of the exhibit you are taken on a half hour guided tour of some of the most gruesome and excruciating tortures ever thought up by the mind of man. To my delight my daughter lapped all this up with glee as our guide explained every inhumanity in detail and with relish.
I couldn’t help thinking how like a classic Amicus anthology the experience felt and I was somewhat relieved to make it back to the surface.
No flashy effects, CGI trickery or gimmicks just an old school side show attraction which gave me the same delightful frisson that I knew as a child. If you ever visit the Gold Coast this is one classic experience that shouldn’t be missed.
