Saw the Toronto show on May 8 and had a great time!

Thinking of checking out Marduk (who I don't really know but were suggested to me) in June...

I don't think you can go wrong with Marduk, I'm going to have to seriously look at hitting that.

We don't have a proper thread dedicated to thrash, but since Destruction influenced early black metal I'll post the link to the review on the Rue Morgue blog of the show in Toronto Aaron Von Lupton and I went to last Saturday night in this one.

Great review Gore-Met. I would have loved top seen that show. I first found Destruction when I was in 9th grade and looking through the import section of my local record store back in 85 or 86 when I saw an album called Sentence of Death with these three guys covered in bullet belts and inverted crosses. I had never heard of Destruction, but I had to find out what they sounded like. And they blew me away!! This was only the second black metal/thrash band I had bought after blind buying Slayers Hell Awaits and Live Undead and having my life change forever. Total Destruction is still one of my all time favorite thrash songs.

The Sunrise Records at Yonge & Sheppard has the new Watain boxed set in stock.
It's got vinyl, a double live CD, DVD documentary and a book.

Looks good!

I'm not sure this even belongs in this thread since Darkthrone aren't really Black Metal anymore, but they have a new album coming out Feb. 25 titled "The Underground Resistance." Here's a track from it:

I like it! Has that old, early 80s feeling to it. Looking forward to hearing the whole record.

^ That's only half the song, the full album version will be 13 minutes. Personally I love it. There's already people complaining about it but that's pretty much been the case for the last 4 albums. They do what they want and fuck everybody else. In other words they're still awesome.

That's great. I have Darkthrone's first bunch of albums, but never listened to anything after Panzerfaust. I may have to give their more recent stuff a listen.

I noticed Satyricon are hitting the studio next month to begin recording their new album. Does anyone actually care about Satyricon any more? I find they're boring as hell since they went with the whole "black n' roll" thing.

Ha! That seems to be how everyone I know feels, but not me.

I've loved Satyricon since the beginning, with The Shadowthrone probably being my favorite album from the early period.

But I also love Now, Diabolical and The Age of Nero. There's a simplicity (some would say "stupidity") to their new stuff that I personally really like.

Maybe it's because hardcore was how I got into punk, metal, and all the stylistic off-shoots in the first place. Whatever the reason, I still really like Satyricon and I'm looking forward to whatever they'll come up with next.

The change in direction hasn't bothered me, I'm still liking them. Nemesis Divina is still my favourite Satyricon album, but I dig Now, Diabolical and The Age of Nero, too. I like what Satyricon is doing a lot more than what Darkthrone has been doing, actually.

I kind of tuned out of Satyricon after Now, Diabolical. Not that I dislike the change in sound or anything, just never got around to getting The Age of Nero. I played the hell out of Volcano when it first came out, "Repined Bastard Nation" is one of my favorite songs by them. Nemesis Diviina will always be my favorite album of theirs. "MOTHER NORTH HOW CAN YOU SLEEP WHILE THEIR BEDS ARE BURNING?"

Nemesis Divina is also my favourite Satyricon album. That's one of the classic essential black metal albums IMO. I'll still buy their new album, but I can't get as enthused about the band in their current black n' roll form.

I haven't followed Darkthrone since Total Death.

I'm pretty psyched that Carpathian Forest are planning on releasing a new album this year as they're pretty much my favorite band in the genre. What I especially love about them is the hardcore punk influence within their sound. Same goes for Nattefrost's solo stuff which is a riot at times. Almost like a black metal GG Allin.
