Remco's Universal Studios' Mini Monsters Figures

Here's a (near-complete) set of Remco's Universal Studios' Mini Monsters figures.

Released in 1980, this fantastic 3 ¾ inch line consisted of the Frankenstein Monster, Dracula, the Wolfman, Creature, the Phantom of the Opera and the Mummy. Initially produced in non-glow versions, a subsequent release was released with a glow in the dark effect. The Mummy appears to have been produced in lower quantities (which is probably why I don't own it) and is now the rarest of the series.

My first figure was Dracula, which I received (I believe) for my eighth birthday back in 1980. The figure met with a horrible demise however at the hands of my then five-year-old brother, but I was able to reacquire it a few years later - along with the other figures in the series.

A "Monsterizer" lab table accessory to bring the Frankenstein Monster back to life was also released; and a haunted house carrying case/playset was also manufactured to give kids additional hours of frightful fun.

In addition to the very nice job done on the sculpting/painting of the figures, what helps to make these great is the beautiful looking cards (just look at those fantastic images of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney, Jr.).

Yeah, that's an instance were it really would be a shame to pluck the toys from the packaging - not that one of these hardcore collectors would ever DREAM of doing such a heinous act.

I had the Drac with the glow in the dark face when I was a kid. LOVED IT, but ultimately lost it at some point. Nice packaging (except for the goofy fangs on Dracula!)

I would have played with these to bits as a child*. I found some pictures of the rather awesome playcase here.

*Who am I kidding? I would play with these today.

I use to have the Phantom and Creature and not sure what happened to them as I was positive that I still had them and can't find them anywhere?

Wow, thanks for digging those up to see Mark - those playcases are amazing (as they probably were really cheap to buy). That's one thing I didn't grow up with were the "cases" that stuff used to come in. I think I had a matchbox case for cars, but that was it. Bases/playsets seemed to be more "in" when I was a kid.

I have vivid memories of playing with Wolfman on the playground during recess. Good times.
