Over the last decade and a half, Guy Aitchison has developed a unique style that is entirely his own that can only be described as organic biomechanics in the abstract. As opposed as those two themes are, he's successfully fused them into an entirely novel brand of art that he applies to all kinds of subject matter - and he does it on human flesh.
His work is instantly recognizible by this style which is characterized by brash, almost neon colours and lurid attention to detail. I think of the words "controlled chaos" when I look at his work because it's so beautiful and free form yet technical and carefully executed. Sprinkled throughout are crystalline bodies that radiate an almost divine (as in sacred) light and glow. Take M.C. Escher, H.R. Giger, a little Dali and a fistful of L.S.D and you've got something approximating Guy Aitchison's art - a surrealist hallucination and experiment in colour, space and structure.
A highly influential tattoo artist and painter (in fact his skin art has its genesis in his paintings), Aitchison is now one of the world's best ink slingers (considered the best by many). I've selected the following pieces to illustrate what I admire most about his work: depth, colour and texture, which he does like nobody's business. I also have an affinity for the way he handles eyes and their irides. You don't have to be a tattoo enthusiast to acknowledge the talent and skill these masterpieces require. Make no mistake, this is fine art at its best. I hope you like it as much as I do.
