On the heels of the Academy Awards nominations comes their polar opposite, The Golden Razzie Award Nominees for 2011 (http://bumpshack.com/2011/01/24/2011-razzie-awards-nominations-full-list-of-nominees/)
I've heard nothing but bad stuff about The Last Airbender to the point where I simply must see this terrible film for myself. It's probably a sure bet for lots of these awards, but with this much crap in one place it's anyone's game.

Once again i ask "why are they only promoting the big hollywood films???"
The top of my worst film list is without a doubt Dario Argento's GIALLO. I also would have thought Burlesque would have cleaned up at the Razzies, as it fits into his snooty little world, but it only got 1 lousy nomination? I think it got nominated for more Golden Globes then Razzies! Like what the fuck???

I'm guessing they're more disappointed in a big budget POS than any more independent feature. Also they probably don't get out of the basement much. ;)

Maybe they secretly like Cher? :ralph:

I've seen three of the nominated worst films of the year. Of all the movies I've seen from last year I would put Inception on that list and that includes Indy and Syfy movies.

The Razzies used to be good, but lately they've become pretty lame. Okay, I get that Megan Fox is a bad actress. But it seems that with her, and certain others are just picked for no other reasons than A: they're easy targets, or B: they're popular in the media at the time. Like LaMort pointed out, I've seen some pretty terrible foreign flicks these past few years that didn't garner a nomination. Where were/are those on the list?
Bah! This list is null and void anyway, seein' how the Nightmare on Elm Street remake didn't get one nod, but yet, The Expendibles did.

The Razzies are stupid. They follow the VH1/E! "easily mocked" logic. And, at any rate, they're just mean-spirited bullshit for the most part. When you've reached the point where you're nomination for worst onscreen couple has reached such stellar lows as "Sharon Stone's Lopsided Breasts" than it's time to quit with what dignity you have left intact, find a nice little, dark room, and weep for your lost humanity.
Basic Instinct 2 was probably really terrible, yeah. But fuck THAT noise. Classless drivel.

Absolutely dead on. Also, I haven't seen 'Twilight: Eclipse' yet, but I would be pretty fuckin' certain it's not the cinematic abortion all those nominations make it out to be. That's just going after a soft target that also happens to be a massive cultural phenomenom so you can score points with the sort of people who think this is some sort of cutting edge criticism. Just complete bullshit and not even in the least bit accurate...

Absolutely.
Blood and Chocolate and The Covenant both EASILY covered similar ground, and I don't think either were ever nominated. Why? No one gave a shit.

But it is accurate in trying to effect the largest audience possible. Twilight being the best example. They aim their arrows at the biggest prizes. It makes me think that this is just another underhanded marketing campaign. In other words, you give us money and we will promote your film.

That's a huge reason why I think Tom Green bothered going to be on it. He knew that that movie was stupid shit, he just saw it as a newly viable marketing tactic. You know, like he has slightly more IQ than Tommy Wiseau or something.

Hey, Mr. Snooty Cineaste, if you think this was the worst film to come out last year I'd be happy to educate you in some of the fucking crap you missed out on.
Anyway, who seriously gives a fuck about this, the Oscars, or any of the other back-patting 'award' deals?

The big Hollywood films are what people know so they go
with a safe selection. The Razzies are not known for giving the spotlight to anything less than big industry's abortions.
Giallo was indeed a low point for Argento, but give me a break James.. the worst film? Not even close. Birdemic the hipster hit of the year was far FAR worse and infinitely more insulting. It can't even be classified as cinema by the most myopic of viewers. YouTube videos by junior high school students are superior.

Jeeze. It's like filmmakers aren't even tryin' anymore. Or attemptin' to be ironic, perhaps? I guess it makes sense though, I mean, why strive for greatness when crap sells just as much? :bludgeon:

How about it was by far the worst film i saw this year??? You know me and i try my best to stay away from bad films exspecially the one from hollywood. I never saw Birdemic nor do i plan to. It seems i don't watch as much crap and you and Gore-met, so i still say yes, Giallo was by far the worst film i saw this year.

Wanna know how much stock I take in The Razzies?
Ennio Morricone's score for THE THING was nominated for one in 1982.
I'll let that sink in for a second.

I would have thrown in Inception either as worst screenplay or worst remake/ pisstake etc. I saw that film a hell of a lot better when it was called eXistenZ.
It looked great and had some cool effects, but the story was arse: 'You dies in a dream, you just wake up... oh, unless you die in THIS dream.' Plot convenience bollocks if you ask me.

eXistenZ was a hell of a lot better when it was called Videodrome.
There is practically no similarity between eXistenZ and Inception. You're reaching. Bitching just to bitch?

Can't speak to it, haven't seen it.
Point being, bitching about Inception being unoriginal is pretty unwarranted. It doesn't outwardly steal anything any more than any other story steals from another. Common threads abound, but it's not plagiarism.

I don't bitch for bitching sake, if I did, I wouldn't have commented on the fine look of the film... and the acting was great, I thought: especially Tom Hardy!!!
The ONLY thing I didn't like about that film, and I stand by what I said, we the whole 'is THIS the dream/ videogame - what is reality' crap that has been done many times before, and to me, a lot better.
I have been a fan of Nolan since I saw Memento, but he lost me with this one.
There are 2 Inception bandwagons too: the ones that blindly hate it for no reason, and those who think it is the most intelligent piece of modern thinking since Plato.
It's not.
Anyway... YAY Razzies!

Your absolutely right there, but what bothered me was when so many people including critics said "It was unlike any film they seen before." or "It was totally unique.". That bugged the shit out of me. I have seen many more original films this year then Inception like ENTER THE VOID for example.

Giallo is horrible...but maybe you should have called it "Worst film by someone competent who we know can do much better". There were a lot of shitty movies last year made by guys who generally turn out shitty movies, so if you're an Argento fan at all, disappointment probably clouds your judgment.

Then again, you did qualify it in a follow-up as the worst film that you saw, so it's kind of hard to argue with that unless we're armed with a list of everything that you saw from last year. ;)

It sat in limbo for a while after completion and was released theatrically in 2010 after it's film festival dates.
The sequel is to be set in Hollywood and shot in 3-D. I can hardly wait.

It was supposed to play at the historic Senator Theater in Baltimore. Not sure if it ever did. That was right around the time of all that controversy with who owned the place. And each time I went to their site it just said "Coming Soon."

It's nice to see Good Night Shyamalin pull off a hat-trick of ineptitude. He's been working towards this moment for so long.
