View Full Version : Let the Horror Movie Hunting Begin...

What horror movies have you been hunting for a long time but have come up empty handed so far? List movies you'd love to watch... but just can't find.
Here are just three of my most-searched films:
The Candy Snatchers
I heard of a bootleg DVD on eBay but I just don't have the money for that right now. I'd love to finally see this one someday, as I've heard comparisons to Last House on the Left and it looks like a perfect grindhouse/sleaze flick.
Little Red Riding Hood and the Monsters
I know Frankenstein has a copy of this (lucky bastard) but I haven't been so lucky. Kid's movie or camp classic, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire
One of those infamous giallo titles that I just can't track down. I once thought I had a vhs copy but it turned out to be a bad dub of Argento's Four Flies on Grey Velvet (which I already had). My hunt continues for this one.
I'll post more soon. Feel free to rub my nose in it if you've actually seen these films... or hook me up with a copy if you can.

Franky - I sent you a PM.
Two more I'm looking for:
Deep River Savages
Lenzi's other cannibal movie and the one that started the wave. It'll probably get a R1 release eventually, but until then I'll just keep reading the description in my Eaten Alive book.
To All a Good Night
I had forgotten how much I wanted to see this one (directed by David Hess) until saw it mentioned in the x-mas slasher article in RM. Still hunting this one down.
Anybody else looking for stuff?

Cookers
This film was featured in Fangoria about a year ago and sounded interesting. However, it doesn't look like it ever received any sort of distribution deal, so I don't know that I'll ever get to see it.
It's about a group of 20 somethings who set up a Meth lab in a cabin in the woods, and... well, I guess you can sort of guess where it goes from there.

Deep River Savages (Lenzi) (PAL Region 2)
Fleeing from underworld justice a photojournalist (Ivan Rassimov) takes to the jungle, where he goes native and finds love. However this comes with a high price, when he finds that he is living with natives who are not only prized for their women but also for their potential as food stock for the local cannibals. Deep River Savages is a former Video Nasty title from prolific Italian director Umberto Lenzi.

I too would love to see some of the old Sun Classic films on DVD. I remember Legend of Bigfoot scared the hell out of me in the theatre when I was a kid.
Ravenheart, Night of the Demon is available from Columbia Tristar. It is included on the Curse of the Demon disc as an added double feature, so you can compare the U.S. to the UK version (which is longer by 14 minutes or so). That is if your making reference to the old 1957 film with Dana Andrews - that's it!

1. I think it's an Italian flick, made about 1976 or so, basically a rip off of "King Kong" but using a 30 foot Yeti instead. I'm not sure of the title.
2. It's a rip off of "JAWS" probably Italian as well, and Universal Studios sued to keep it out of theatres, it was so close to the plot of the actuall Jaws film. Great White Shark killing folks, three men hunt it, ect.
3. "Tintorera" the original, uncut Mexican version. Was on sale on EBAY once, but didnt win the auction.
4. and of course, the Holy Grail of all DVD's, the Subspecies Quartet. I think that Paramount and Full Moon Pictures are tied up in some ridiculous litigation over who owns the rights to the films.

I saw this one in theaters in the early to mid 80's. I think it made it to theaters for 2 weeks before it was pulled. I can't remember what it was called but a girl gets her leg bit off. That is all I can really remeber. If it is even the same movie that you are talking about.

It is the same movie. It is called Great White (a.k.a. The Last Shark). Because of the lawsuit, the company who made the film went under. So this movie is very hard to find.
Here is a website that talks a little about it. Just scroll down about half way. Click Here. (http://www.badmovieplanet.com/unknownmovies/reviews/fvi.html)

Cat in the Brain - the DVD comes up on ebay from time to time but a little out of my price range. I loved this movie.

I love backwoods horror films but I've never seen this Jeff Lieberman movie. No video store has it and I'm always expecting it to show up on DVD soon so I never bought an eBay tape. I know Brentwood was going to put it on one of their collections recently but it was pulled at the last second for legal reasons. Too bad. Maybe someday.

Cool movie. In fact the first Classic Cut I ever wrote for Rue Morgue was on this one. Stars familiar B-people like Robert Carradine, Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith (star of Lemora, covered in the new RM), Andrew Stevens, Kimberly Beck (Fri. 13 Final Chapter) and Lani O'Grady (Eight is Enough). Directed by Renee Daalder, a protege of Russ Myer. A couple of Toronto specialty vid stores may have it on VHS. Check Suspect or Queen Video.

I bought the Quentin Tarantino special of Mighty Peking Man, and it indeed is as great as I thought it would be. This "Yeti" flick is Italian, and I recall a still of the film, showing a pair of giant Yeti feet. Yeti also has some half naked hottie that the Yeti loves parading around in her undies through the film. I love schlock like that.

I have alot that are pretty obscure but can still be found.. A few that I'm not sure about:
Nocturna, Granddaughter of Dracula - Vampire comedy starring Yvonne De Carlo (Lily from the Munsters) and John Carradine.
Vampira (aka Old Dracula) - Another vampire comedy with David Niven and Linda Hayden. Niven wants to revive his wife and transfuses her with blood from a black woman, turning his wife black!
Macabre - One from William Castle that I haven't seen.
The Old Dark House - 1962 collaboration between William Castle and Hammer Studios.

This actually played at this year's Cinemuerte Horror Film Festival.
It's great. I'm surprised that they didn't sue when Heathers came out as the films are almost identical.
I know that there is a Region 2 DVD of this available. You can usually grab it for cheap off of eBay.
The other film you are talking about is OVER THE EDGE. Stars Matt Dillon. Here's the IMDB link : http://imdb.com/title/tt0079688/
Usually goes for a lot on eBay, however, I think I have a copy around the house somewhere.

I really hate buying from wal-mart but i had a store credit and i couldnt help myself.A few people who know how much i like Bruce Campbell told me about it and teased me that it was gone. I went there and just started digging for the last copy and found it! The transfer isnt great, and there is'nt any special features besides scence selection, but how can ya go wrong for like 6 bucks! I've been waiting to get it forever and if it is re-released i would definetly pick it up again. if i could find it.

"Pacific Family" says it released it on DVD a couple of months ago. If so, it must of been extremely limited release because no online store seems to have it. Either way, it was an unauthorized release (aka bootleg). No word on an official DVD any time soon.

Man I love that movie. Very bizarre film with one hell of a sick ending. Very disturbing, especially for PG. The opening murder was ripped off by Carpenter for Halloween.
It plays on Scream once in a blue moon so if you want me to tape it for you, I can. I keep my fingers crossed that MGM will release it as part of their Midnite Movies line, but nothing so far.

That's the only of the older "Fly" films I haven't seen. I've heard it's freaky, not about the fly at all, bur a different direction. I'd like to see that one too.
I guess London After Midnight doesn't count, since it's pretty definitively in the "Lost Film" category. I can't help thinking it's probably better that way--chances are the film would disappoint, whereas that makeup that Chaney did--pure nightmare fuel up there with his Phantom face.
I would like to see the Edison Frankenstein. Weren't they supposed to be restoring the print they found for release?
And I would love to find a 70s/80s TV Movie called This House Posessed on dvd or video. It scared the crap out of my brother when he was around 7 years old, I mean really scarred him for months, and it would make a great gift now. (He's as big a horror geek as me...my corrupting influence. ).

Dr. Jekyll vs The Wolfman (1971)
I just ordered this flick day before yesterday from Xploited. It's PAL though. Do they sell that Cyberhome DVD player in any stores near you, brainbug? It's like 37 bucks American. Rhodes recommended it in the multi region thread and it's been great for me so far.
As for a film I'm on the hunt for...I don't even know what it's called. I saw it when I was really little. I just remember that it's kind of a black comedy. It takes place in a school, and a girl gets killed with a wooden horse made in the shop class. While the killer is killing her, he makes horse noises. Also, some girl gets killed under the bleachers with a trash bag. And I think the killer is the principal, or the principal dies at the end...or something. Like I said, I saw it when I was like 6 so I don't remember details much. If that abstract description jogs someone's memory, by all means sound off.

Sounds like Student Bodies to me, an Airplane!-esque slasher movie spoof from the 80s. I remember thinking it was really funny at the time. But then again, I was 14... :D

I'm also hoping I can score up...

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Let's Scare Jessica To Death
The Beyond
Anthropophagus

There's another film I'm curious about but I forget the title. It's about some people on an island that are terrorized by a giant of some sort. Apparently it uses a lot of that Harryhausen stop motion stuff that I tend to like.
EDIT: Since I posted this I got curious and looked around the internerd. The movie I'm referring to above is called Equinox aka The Beast. I think I'd like to see it.

That one is horrible.Saying Special effects by Savini is an insult to Tom.There is no visble works of the maestro in the cut I bought when my local mom and pop closed.I could tape it but it may not love up to your expectations.

That one is out on DVD and I know because I bought it.Great concept somewhat lacking on the follow through. The writer rips it a new one in the interview saying "I gave them a wonderfully complex film with great ideas and they turned it into this piece of shit".Wow such love.
