Notice how a few well-written words in RM are comparable to a long article in most other film magazines?

Is that cover a photo or artwork? It might just be hard to tell from the smaller size.

I like the fact that you stick with art for most of your covers, and hope that continues.

That's a photograph from Jean Rollin's Living Dead Girl.

We love illustrated covers too. It's a great tradition and I'm sure there will be more on future issues!

that is such a sad statement when you think about it. How has it come to the point where we're frightened to bring a friggin movie magazine to work with us?

The Cover doesn't feature this woman with her legs wrapped around her head giving us a full view of her nether regions and from the looks of it you don't even see her nipples. IMO, this cover is no worse than any Maxim, FHM or Stuff out there on the shelves.

If it's the content inside that makes this a not "work safe" issue then that's worse because if it's your's and as long as your not flashing the pages to everyone in sight then it's nobody's business even if there's nudity inside or not.

It stinks to high heaven because even with the non nudity cover and you not showing this to people around you, there is still the fear of "what if someone sees this and is offended? I could be disiplined or worse, I could lose my job".

What a society!

HammerHorrorFan - Try reselecting it from the avatar menu in "edit avatar" in the User CP. If you don't see it there drop me a PM and let me know. A few things may have been lost during the board upgrade, if we know what they are chances are we can put them back without too much trouble.

...when I checked to see why my Leatherface wasn't coming up, NONE of the avatars showed up, only the "broken" images and the "selected" green dots. Ahem...I think the term is, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."...(sigh)...seems like the overall situation is: if it's an original avatar, it doesn't come up. If it's from somewhere else, it comes up. Odd...

Well, it was broken - remember how everyone was complaining about the avatars crapping out and refusing to upload. This was the only way to begin to fix the problem - the software we were using was YEARS outdated.

It is easy enough to replace the missing public avatars as long as folks tell me which ones didn't make it through the transition/upgrade.

Unfortunatly that's the case with where I work. I don't have a problem with the cover, but I might offend someone reading it at work. Now I do work with a great bunch of people in my department who know me well, but it's whose out of the department that circulate around my desk and might glance at what I've got hidden under some papers and snatch it for further inspection.

I've got a Trailer Park Boys calendar hanging up in my office and I can hear the old "Betty's" tisk tisk it as they walk by. With this cover, no nudity is involved, but the implications of what's going on can run miles in someone's uneducated mind. Think of the movie Office Space, then think of the female who's passing cake around. Nuff said.

When people get fired in my office for gossip, I'll simply enjoy reading this month's issue in the comforts of my home.

On behalf of the World Horror Convention 2006 (http://www.whc2006.org) Committee, I'd like to thank Monica and the Rue Crue for the rockin' write-up on Page 10 of #55! I've spent the last year promoting the WHC to the best of my abilities, and this coverage is the icing on a very deserving cake!

As a quick update, Clive Barker had to cancel due to his schedule, but Bill Moseley has stepped up to be our Media Guest of Honor, and Ray "Live Girls" Garton has been named as the WHC Grand Master Award Winner, and will be at the convention.

We hope to see you all out in San Fran this May, and in Toronto in 2007!!

Got my issue at Border's yesterday.

Sure agree here with the final statements made in Joel Wickland's letter. Gore is SOOOO overdone today. That sentiment is probably due to my age as well (42). But, honestly, gore is just a cheap scare.

So I love seeing RM embrace films that don't rely on gore to frighten. I thought Blair Witch and Sixth Sense were enough to change the face of horror films, and they sure did help, but now things are slipping back into gore for gore's sake. Not a good trend.........

Even though RM has more than it's share of gore, it still sure is a great read. I'll be voting for it in the next Rondo awards I'm sure.

Boudin Noir

Different taste I guess.I thought the Blitch and 6th Sense were overrated and I've been enjoying the return to gore in the theaters but its cool that Rue Morgue has stuff that appeals to both of us.

I hear you. What strikes me about RM is the quality of the writing. I have every issue of CFQ, and was happy to see it come back after Fred's passing, but those run-on sentences in CFQ sure get annoying.

There is more real info in 1 page of RM than in 5 pages of most other newsstand mags.

...got mine yesterday. Greg Lamberson's stone right; RM does remind me of the old-style CFQ ( I've got CFQ all the way back to the BLACK HOLE issue, and the dense, information-packed writing style is very similar.), but with more than a touch of the "Castle of Frankenstein" intelligence behind the words. I just wanted to take a quick second to say how much I enjoyed (actually, enjoying. I'm still reading it) this month's issue. It's wonderful to see the mag take on such a sticky (pardon the pun) topic such as sex and horror by focusing on the Eurotic movies of the 60's and 70's. Presenting such a thoughtful and insightful view on this, framed with great interviews from the creators of such wonderfully disgusting fare, just reminded me more why RM is my favorite mag going. And, as much as I love porn and horror mashing together, a lot of great points were brought up about the lack of artistic style to the current crop of splatterporn. Again, great work by all.

The Slither interview and comic book zombies was pretty good, too. ;)
