Due to a professional opportunity, Linda Blair regrets that she cannot attend this weekend. She sends her apologies and hopes to be able to attend in the future.

Ooh good!! I've already met her anyway. Does this mean there is an open slot available for another guest? Perhaps...

Frank Henenlotter?!?!?

:D

How about someone foreign from a non-English speaking country like, uhh...

Jorg Buttgereit?!?!?

Actually, The Gore-met has already arranged to take over her booth. He'll be selling slightly-wet, highly-discounted horror memorabilia.

Thats weak, but work is work! Can't get by on Exorcist residuals alone. Kind of short notice to find a replacement, so I wouldn't hold out hope.

Terrible news for me, I already had an Exorcist poster but when I found out she was gonna be there I decieded to get a one with a close up of her. Well the one downtown was gone so just a few days ago I ordered one over the internet for $20, well I got worried it wouldn't get here on time so changed it to express mail and it came this morning. Because I did the express mail thing it cost $40, and now I just did all that and spent all my money for nothing. Oh well I hope she can make it next time.

While I have the sudden urge to get a white mask and move into the basement of the Convention Centre, emerging periodically only to terrorize the FoF, I'll fight that urge. But of all the guests to cancel, why Linda Blair? That sucks, but thankfully the guest list is so stacked this year, it won't hurt so much.

I understand that 'professional opportunity' is one of those things that can't be passed up, but I'm sorry, I just don't really accept that. How can you bail this close to the date...I know she's probably had a tough job (pun intended) getting work after the the sequel showcased her acting abilities, but c'mon!!! There were a lot of people really excited, that's just a lame thing to do, (especially to those who were driving in from a distance).

I may just be ranting, but I would think a 'professional courtesy' would be something that's up there with a 'professional opportunity'. I don't know the whole story, maybe she tried frantically to still show, only she and RM crew would know. There is probably a back-story that we all don't know, still bites.

This will by NO means make this con any less fun for me (my second EVER, so I'm just freakin' thrilled that RM puts on a domain for those of us that prefer the evil), but it a bit of a bummer, as there's probably no way they're going to be able to fill that spot. And there were people who probably had her as a major highlight on their attendance. (If it were Tony Todd, then I might be a bit more broken up about it)...

The show will go on, that's for sure, but she will be missed. End rant.

Personally, I don't care about her cancellation. I was never a big fan of The Exorcist. I respect it, but never did get into it.

With that being said, it is crappy for her to cancel (even though her name wasn't even on the schedule..hmmm), but as we all know that she probably makes most of her money from Conventions and she will be at another one, I'm sure.

Wow I dont know what to say, I thought for sure it was for a movie or something. Im a huge Linda Blair fan but like some people have already said there are fans who traveled a long way and spent alot of money to make it to the Festival Of Fear to see her and what about the people who wont even know until the day of the event ?

She waited 3 days before the event to cancel for this "professional opportunity" while all of us have waited month's for the chance to meet her. I almost feel like emailing her but I doubt that would change her mind, I realy am very surprised.

I have to wonder how long the dog show was in planning. Probably as long as FoF. So she might have said yes to both ages ago and then decided at the last minute which one to go to. I'm just speculating.

I completely forgot about that. She should at least say that's why she's not coming. That way she doesn't seem so rude for cancelling at such late notice.

If she isn't coming to FOF because of her Charity work or even if it is the ban on pitbulls, its a better excuse than the year Ray Park didn't show up becuase he decided he'd rather keep the money he was paid and go on vacation. They had big posters of some newspaper articles about his being at some swanky private island or something posted all over the convention center lobby when that happened. He claims his agent told him it would be the best option for his career (not showing up for that specific convention, I'm not sure about keeping the money).
Basil Gogos cancelled last year, is he ever going to be invited back?

Nooooo!!! dammit, she was the one i was looking forward to seeing most! this really sucks.

to the FoF staff, PLEASE try and book her for next year. i'm sure it was an honest mistake on her part for booking two appearances at the same time and i really hope she makes it up to her Toronto fans by showing up next year. it's well in advance so there can't be any problems. please get her back if you can.

also, i guess it's too late for a backup? she was one of the top FoF guests scheduled so losing her is quite big. it is last minute notice but keep in mind there are quite a few celebs in town already for the TIFF which starts very soon. it can't be that hard to find someone who has a background in horror? can it?

how about some Canadians like Emily Perkins or Katharine Isabelle from Ginger Snaps? there must be some people you can call and arrange something with? the weekend is still so far away. :saw:

I agree - for the record, I only pointed out that I noticed Linda was attending a dogshow instead of the FoF. It wasn't meant as a derogatory comment or slag in any way, shape or form.

There is also the distinct possibility that her agent may have double booked her and commited her appearance at the dog show much earlier than the FoF. What I find shitty and very dissappointing is that she left it to the very last minute before cancelling.

I also agree with the Gore-met, we shouldn't be name-calling. However, I do still feel a bit cheezed at her for just bailing at the last minute (well, she could've just not shown up at all, that would've been worse).

Thanks for finding that out Bubba, although I think that the number of pissed-off fans have definitely grown because of it. I was okay with the 'professional opportunity' reason, (even though I did rant a bit about there being something called 'professional courtesy' in a previous post), because that could've meant something good for her career (or lack of?). But now that the cat's out of the bag, it's tough not to be pissed at her for being so un-professional. (and for a bloody dog show? granted it's one she's involved in, but still)

She was probably one of the celeb's that I was luke-warm about, but it still sucks for those who were making a long trek and were really looking forward to meeting her (especially when you're bringing someone who ONLY wanted to see her - good luck man).

I guess it happens, but it'll be forgotten by all of us when we get there and get distracted with all the other people there and all the goodies for sale...really looking forward to it!

It's not the fact that she cancelled but that she cancelled a couple hours before the event and than goes to a Dog Show..

I think you missed my point.. I'm just saying why cancel days before the event to attend another event not even in the realm of a horror convention..

I also said I could care less whether she was there. I didn't plan on meeting her anyway.. I'm just saying there are people that had made plans from hundreds of miles away to meet her and now she is not attending.. If it would have been weeks in advance fine and I don't even care if she than would have rescheduled to go to the dog show. But the fact that it came down to the wire is ridiculous and very un professional..

I for one don't care if she's coming or not, or why not. But that's just me.

I do find it commendable that she prioritizes charity involvement over a cash grab convention appearance.

I just wish it was a worthwhile charity... I support banning pit bulls (for many reasons), and as such am disappointed that so many people expend time and energy to this protest. But again, that's just me.

I wish she was involved in a humane society function, as oppsed to the presence of a charitable organization at a social function - not a fundraising function.

Yeah I think marriage might be the solution to that problem too. ;) (*these forums are in need of an eye rolling smilie*)

As far as Linda Blair is concerned my plans for FoF went to hell and it looks like I'll be missing out but even if I were attending it would not have made a huge difference to me personally. I enjoy some of her work but celebs really do nothing for me.

On that note at least a dog show is a better excuse than if she called in sick or said that she has to stay home and wash her hair (do women still use this excuse?:p ).

I hear you man...In fact, I'm thinking that I'm going to be part of the feeding frenzy too! :zombie: I've saved up a nice little nest egg to blow on all things horror this year - well, except for autographs, just can't justify paying for a signature - I'm just not that hardcore, I guess.

<side-rant> I know it's part of the deal, and lots of the autographs go straight on ebay, I just don't like that concept (again, just me personally expressing my view). We (as fans) support them by seeing/buying the movies they make and I think that a fan asking for an autograph for whatever shouldn't have to pay (i guess the autograph sellers out there ruin it). Bill M. and Kane H. last year were really nice, but even after talking to them for a few minutes, an autograph for free was still out of the question...Only Savini was cool that way - pictures, autographs, he just seemed happy to be there...Now I'm getting on a rant, so I'm going to just cut myself off there. Fun will be had by all! <end-rant>

The thing you have to realize is that actors in most horror flicks aren't getting paid a whole helluva lot. The whole pay for an autograph thing is just a way for them to subsidize their income. I, for one, have no problem paying $20 for an autograph. It's when they charge exorbitant amounts (eg, Marsters, Wood, and Stewart last year) that i get bent out of shape.

I agree completely. I mean, how many of us can afford to fly to another country, and sit at a table all weekend, while being gawked at and asked annoying questions by "fans" (I overheard Hodder telling a fan "No, I wasn't in that one, just 7-10"). It ain't like they're Tom "$20,000,000.00 a movie" Cruise. They probably need this money just like you or I would.

I look retarded in that pic! Partially because I was backing out of the picture and thought I was out of frame.......................and partly because I got stupid from being near a Horror Makeup god

Anyone who makes plans to attend a convention from a fair distance to solely meet ONE guest is taking a HUGE risk. Last year I was so bummed that Brad Dourif cancelled a week or two prior to Chiller, but thankfully I didn't have to cancel my reservations at the hotel, throw my VIP passes away, and refund my bus ticket. Why? Because there was like 5 other guests I was dying to meet. Besides, there is tons of other cool shit to do at the FoF then meet guests.

Another thing about them charging for money you need to remember is that I doubt if you seen them on the street they would charge money, these horror conventions are organized events and I dont think too many people would be willingto sit at a table 3 days in a row for nothing. I would never pay for an autograph if I seen them outside of a convention but no matter how much they might love they're fans(or not) it is still work.

I just took a look at that BULLY EXPO page and saw that the event is happening near L.A.

I was under the impression that Linda was working on a film or something. Perhaps that's the case and the reason she's attending this Bully Expo because it's close by on her day off from shooting.

But like the Gore-Met says....

It doesn't get us anywhere by speculating.

I'm really disappointed she's not coming because she was the guest I was most looking forward to.

Hopefully she'll be there next year.
